After overseeing the daily operations of Heat Exchanger Products Corporation (HEPCO) for the last seventeen years, Tracy Hennigan Bonnyman has finally decided to purchase HEPCO making it officially a Woman Owned and Operated Business.

Hepco is currently in the process of acquiring it’s Certification for being Woman Owned in order to be able to be included in the Industries Diversified Vendor Data Base. “We manufacture a very reliable product and I believe this will be a great benefit for our clients to be able to access us within this data base.” Bonnyman stated recently.

In addition to this, Hepco has made the decision to start representing other manufacturers of it’s kind in order to provide more choices in heat exchanger, condenser and feedwater heater Products to the Industry.

We embrace this change at Heat Exchanger Products Corporation and hope to have a bright new future serving the Industry to the best of our ability.

While it’s a well known fact that titanium is a more expensive material than say stainless steel or copper-nickel alloys, when given the facts about corrosion resistance, titanium comes out ahead.

The reason titanium is an overall better tubing option than some materials is due to it’s immunity to corrosion. It is impervious to corrosion in saline and brackish environments and since titanium produces a naturally occurring oxide film, it resist breakdown from chloride ions as well. It is also resistant to biofouling.

Titanium condenser tube plugs have in fact been in use in some power plants for 40 years consecutively without retubing. One example of this in the Arthur Kill Station in New York which has been operating with titanium condenser tube plugs since 1971.

Due to the corrosion resistant properties of titanium, it allows for thinner tube walls to be used which in turn increases the heat transfer efficiency. Also, due to it’s light weight, the overall weight of the condenser will be lighter as well as the support structures required for the condenser.

Typically the failure to titanium condenser tube plugs is due to outside or accidental damage.

Using a lower cost material can cost less initially however, it can be significantly more overall due to tube failure from corrosion, erosion and biofouling. Titanium’s combination of high strength plus corrosion resistance make it able to withstand the test of time in condensers and heat exchangers and therefore reduce the need to retube after a certain amount of years as with some tubing materials making it the ideal choice for Power Plants.

By using the newest technologies in silicone rubber, Hepco proves their dedication to providing their clients with high-performance, cost effective, condenser tube plugs. Silicone rubber is the material of choice over black rubber and metal for low pressure condenser and heat exchanger tube plugs.

There are several reasons why Hepco recognizes silicon rubber as a superior material for their condenser tube plugs. At the top of their list is its superior performance when it comes to flexibility and heat resistance.

Silicone rubber retains its natural flexibility and resilience across a wider temperature range. In fact in almost all cases silicone rubber will seal better because of its remarkable flexible qualities and excellent resistance to extreme temperatures. This alliance of flexibility and extreme temperature resistance is critical in the make up of a strong and reliable condenser tube plug. These properties allow Hepco to re-use their plugs and still achieve the same seal.

Hepco understands that longer staying power means less down time replacing plugs and less money spent on new plug replacement. At normal operating temperature silicone rubber offers an almost unlimited lifespan in service. Silicone rubber’s resistance to deterioration due to chemical compounds in standing water means Hepco’s condenser tube plugs will be sticking around longer to perform their critical functions.

Condenser tube plugs made from other materials such as rubber show less promising performance and durability. Rubber has a carbon to carbon backbone which means a condenser tube plug made from this material leaves it susceptible to the ozone, UV heat and other ageing factors that Hepco’s silicone rubber condenser tube plugs are able to withstand. Rubber can also fail due to cracking or rotting. Metal condenser tube plugs can distort the tube or tube sheets. Hepco’s plugs avoid the dangers of corrosion often experienced with metal condenser tube plugs because no metallic parts touch the inside of the tube.
